As part of iOS 8’s new Extensibility features, developers can now create app extensions throughout the system for sharing information and performing actions without actually launching their apps.
What this means for users is that the familiar action or share button (the upward arrow in a box) will now contain way more options than ever before. Remember when Apple added Facebook and Twitter sharing, for example directly to Safari and Photos on iOS? Starting with iOS 8, Apple is allowing all app makers to create similar buttons for sharing and actions. An example of an action (like copy or add to Reading List) shared by Apple at WWDC was native language translation directly in Safari using Bing Translate. Extension support also includes photo filters allowing photo editing apps that provide filter extensions to work inside of the native Photos app.
A year after introducing Touch ID, the secure fingerprint scanner first introduced with the iPhone 5s, Apple is also now allowing apps to take advantage of Touch ID for the first time. Touch ID users can now authenticate log-ins and more in supported apps using the secure fingerprint scanner. Below we’ll tell you about the latest apps already taking advantage of extensions and Touch ID support for iOS 8.
Extensions
1Password (Free)
1Password has been busy all summer with creating their own extension, adding Touch ID support, and even creating an extension for other app makers to use in their own apps. 1Password users can prompt their vaults to open in Safari with the new 1Password extension and never have to leave the browser.
Box (Free)
Cloud storage and syncing service Box is now accessible through any apps that support the new framework thanks to Extensibility. Apple showed off an example of this at WWDC.

Day One (Free)
Share Extensions—Now you can easily send data to Day One without having to open the app!

Fragment ($1.99)
Special effects photo editing from Fragment is available directly from the Photos app. The app also supports Handoff between the iPHone and iPad versions. Expect to see a new App Store Bundle on their apps, too, something new to iOS 8 and the App Store.
Instapaper (Free)
Instapaper users can now add articles and videos to their queue from Safari just like Reading List with the new extension.
Microsoft OneNote (Free for iPhone & iPad)
OneNote users can now add content to their notebooks directly from the web.

OmniFocus ($19.99)
The task management system now supports adding content from other apps to your task list using its system extension.
PDF Converter ($6.99)
Push content from Photos, Safari, Mail, and more into PDF Converter without having to first open the app using the new extension.
Pinterest (Free)
“Pin” content natively from Safari to Pinterest without opening the app as shown off at WWDC.
Pocket (Free)
Pocket users can now add content from the web including articles and videos to Pocket from Safari including tag support. Handoff support to Safari on the Mac is also supported.
Promofly (Free)
When shopping around on the web, Promofly allows uses to tap its new extension for find deals and saving money at checkout.
Scanner Pro ($6.99)
Snap a photo using your camera, edit it in the Photos app using Scanner Pro, and send it off.
Tumblr (Free)
Make a post from almost anywhere on your phone. Open your Photos app, for example. Pick a photo, tap the share button, tap “More,” and look: Tumblr.
Things ($9.99)
Send content from Safari and more with the extension coming to Things with iOS 8.
Vimeo (Free)
The video sharing service has already enjoyed iOS integration since last year, and now the app is rolling out an extension tied to its app.
View Source ($0.99)
View Source is an app plus an iOS 8 Safari extension that makes it easy to do one key web developer task: view the HTML, JavaScript and CSS source of any web page, with beautiful and customisable syntax highlighting.

Not only is 1Password boosting their app with extensions for them and other developers, but 1Password users can now unlock their vaults with their fingerprint using Touch ID.
Day One ($4.99)
The journaling app Day One is perfect for Touch ID, and the app is updating with support for the new way to use the fingerprint scanner. Lock your entries with a passcode or even better, your fingerprint.
